Thirty people evacuated from homes due to Hulu Langat floods

KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of residents from Batu 12 to Batu 23 were affected by floods following two-hour of torrential rain this afternoon.

Thirty people have been evacuated from their homes so far.

The affected areas are Kampung Sg Serai Batu 12, Kampung Batu 13, Taman Nanding Batu 13, Pekan Batu 14, Masjid Batu 16, Batu 14 town, Batu 16 mosque, Dusun Tua Batu 16, Dusun Tua Seberang Batu 17, Dusun Tua National Youth Advanced Skills Training Institute, Kampung Batu 17, Batu 18 police station, Kampung Tanjung Batu 18, Kampung Jawa Batu 18, Batu 18 town, Kampung Kuala Perdik Batu 19, Kampung Haji Hassan Batu 20, Kampung Lunok Kelubi Batu 22 and Sungai Lui Batu 22.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department zone chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said 200 residents were estimated to be affected.

"The flood was triggered by unusual rainfall from 2pm to 4pm, causing Sungai Langat and its streams, Sungai Lui, Sungai Perdik, Sungai Serai, Sungai Jernih and Sungai Michu, to overflow," he said in a statement today.

He said an operation centre has been set up at the village heads office in Batu 14.

Five fire stations - Bangi, Kajang, Pandan, Ampang and Cheras - are involving in the relief operations.

It is learnt that three relief centres have been opened.

Meanwhile, City Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a team from the Cheras and Hang Tuah station underwater rescue team were deployed to Kampung Sungai Makau Batu 14 to assist the operation at 7.16pm.

"As of now, 30 victims have been evacuated," he said.
