Kedah sponsors 10 buses to ferry students in Klang Valley back home for Raya

ALOR STAR: The state government is sponsoring 10 buses to transport students in the Klang Valley back to their hometown this Thursday.

The state Education, Transport and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain said the Kedah government has decided to continue with the initiative for the second time following the overwhelming response last year.

"Based on the positive feedback from the students, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah has agreed to approve a budget for 10 buses," he said.

Tajul said this during a break fast event with some 1,500 Kedahans who are residing and studying in the Klang Valley at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

He added that the initiative was meant to ease the students' burden and at the same time provide a safer mode of transportation for them to celebrate Aidilfitri with their families.

"The initiative was well received by the students and their parents when we welcomed them in Sungai Petani last year," he said.

Tajul, who represented the Menteri Besar at the event, also presented a total RM54,000 grants to 18 Kedahan students bodies.
