RTD's WhatsApp hotline takes off, summonses issued to traffic offenders

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 29 complaints have been received since the launch of Road Transport Department's (RTD) hotline on Saturday.

The initiative by RTD enables motorists and bus passengers to notify the department of offences that they have witnessed via the WhatsApp application for immediate actions to be taken.

RTD director-general Datuk Nadzri Siron said following the complaints, a total of 22 summonses were issued to vehicles which were plying the emergency lane, while seven for other offences.

Nadzri thanked the road users for tipping-off the department which will enable them to take immediate action against errant motorists.

He also encouraged others to notify RTD if they witnessed any offences being committed.

"Thank you and congratulations to Malaysians who took the initiative to notify us," he told reporters at a press conference today.

Complainants should also include a picture, if possible, the location, time and the type of offences involved.

Once the message is received, officers manning the hotline will alert the men on the ground and immediate action will be taken.

Members of the public who wishes to make any reports can send their complaints through WhatsApp to 011-5111 5252.
