Kedah teen in hot soup for using fake number plate on dad's motorcycle

ALOR STAR: A 15-year-old boy will have a lot to explaining to do when he was nabbed riding his father's motorcycle without permission and fixing a fake registration number on the machine.

He thought he had outsmarted the authorities but as it turned out, he had given himself away after police found that the number plate belonged to another motorcycle reported stolen recently.

The boy was among several teenagers netted while trying to flee from a traffic police's road-block at Persiaran Lebuh Raya Sultan Abdul Hamid early this morning.

A police spokesman said in the 2.30am operation dubbed 'Ops Roda', the boy and his friends sped off upon realising the police presence but were cornered by policemen ,anning the roadblock.

"Initially the boy gave an excuse that he was on the way to buy a 'baju raya' but we suspected something amiss.

"After being taken to the Kota Setar police headquarters, the boy confessed that he had taken the motorcycle without his father's knowledge," he said.

He said the boy's parents have been notified on the arrest.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Traffic Police northern region subtek chief Superintendent Shahrum Hashim said the operation was held in conjunction with the 'Ops Selamat 11' to track down traffic offenders especially those who have warrant of arrest against them for this Aidilfitri.

"We have issued 130 summons for various traffic offenders while 15 motorcycles have been seized for further investigation throughout the four-hour operation that started at midnight

"A number of motorcyclists are detained while trying to flee the roadblock and all of them did not possess any driving licence." he said.
