KUALA LUMPUR: DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang has demeaned himself by criticising the Special Task Force (STF) for setting up an investigation into the losses suffered by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) due to foreign exchange trading in the 1990s.
Former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim said that back in the 90s, Lim was very vocal in Parliament in calling for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe the losses.
"He had shown great courage to stand by his position on the issue throughout the years.
"But in (recently) running down the STF, (he has) diminished his contribution in bringing the foreign exchange scandal to light," said Tunku Aziz when contacted by the New Straits Times today.
Tunku Aziz said Lim should instead thank the seven-member task force, led by former chief secretary to the government, Mohd Sidek Hassan, for doing an important public duty.
Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, had previously questioned the task force for not looking into other issues, such as 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), which he said are more important.
Tunku Aziz calls on everyone, including the Opposition, to support the RCI, as the BNM matter is an important national issue which should be brought to a proper closure.
