Malaysia's biggest anime convention to rock Penang this weekend

GEORGE TOWN: The third instalment of Penang Anime Matsuri returns this weekend to wow anime fans at the Setia Spice Convention Centre here.

Penang Anime Matsuri 2017 - Summer Wonderland (PAM17) is organised by SOZO Pte Ltd and supported by Anime Festival Asia, the Penang state government and the Japan consul-general to Penang.

The event is touted as the largest anime convention in Malaysia with an expected turnout of up to 50,000 people throughout the two-day programme.

The event will bring many pop culture content direct from Japan. The main event, 'I love Anisong X AniBeats' will take place on two evenings, featuring top performances by acts such as DJ Kazu, kradness, kz (livetune), May'n and nano.

Apart from the usual celebrity cosplays from Malaysia and China, Japan's top cosplayer Enako will also make appearance for a meet-and-greet session with fans on Saturday.

"We received very encouraging response from the public for the past two visits here and we are eager to rock Penang," said SOZO Pte Ltd's managing director Shawn Chin.

Among the other fun-filled activities slated for the two days include Cosplay Singles Showdown, HoneyWorks animated movies and also a photo opportunity with Pikachu.

Indoor exhibition halls with the stage costs RM15 per day. Tickets for the concert and the exhibition with stage costs RM118 per day and RM220 for two days.
