KL2017 torch reaches George Town via sea, land

GEORGE TOWN: Hundreds of people were on hand to welcome six swimmers carrying the torch for the state-level Larian Obor Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) here today.

The swimmers began their journey from Pulau Jerejak at 7am and reached the Region 1 Marine Police Headquarters at Batu Uban here at about 8.45am.

The torch was handed over to Marine Police commander Assistant Commissioner Rosnan Ismail.

Penang Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye then flagged off the participants who proceeded on their 11.5km run to the state National Sports Council.

The participants, who completed their run at 11.30am, were escorted by police throughout their route.

The torch was then placed at the National Sports Council, where it will be exhibited until 5pm today.

The 29th Sea Games 2017 will take place from August 19 to 30.
