159,000 new MyKad remain uncollected this year: NRD

PEKAN: Up to 159,000 MyKad nationwide have yet to be claimed by their applicants this year.

National Registration Department (NRD) director-general Datuk Mohd Yazid Ramli said that those who have yet to collect their MyKad are presumably using their temporary MyKad documents beyond their three-month validity period.

"The NRD plans to impose a fine on applicants who fail to collect their new MyKad within the specified collection period.

"People are not taking it seriously to come forward and claim their MyKad.

"We hope the MyKad Distributed Printing Project (DPP) Hub, which will help shorten the duration of processing the MyKad to five days (in the peninsula) compared to 10 days in the past, will (encourage) applicants to apply and collect their identity documents within the stipulated time," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the DPP sub hub at NRD Pekan today.

Yazid said the launch of the DPP Hub has made it easier for people to obtain their new MyKad within a shorter time and there is no reason for them to leave their MyKad uncollected.
