SANDAKAN: Rescuers are scanning the waters here to find a missing teenager, who is feared drowned.
According to a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) source, 16-year-old Ekim Hasan was reported missing after falling into the sea early yesterday morning.
The search and rescue operation, which entered its second day, was focused in waters about 15 nautical miles north east of the district. It involved the MMEA, navy and marine police.
It was learnt that the boy had boarded a speedboat with another teenager and they were travelling towards the open sea.
Enforcement team patrolling the area spotted them and approached the boat, which then sped off. During the boat pursuit, the boy fell into the sea.
The other teenager has been detained for further action.
