KUALA LUMPUR: Phase two of the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line between Kajang and Muzium Negara will be open to the public from 4pm this Monday, after its official launch by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Ir Zohari Sulaiman said the public can take the opportunity by taking MRT train from Kajang station to Muzium Negara station, which is connected to KL Sentral station via a pedestrian walkway.
“However, connection to phase one of the SBK line between Sungai Buloh station and Semantan station as well as to integrated stations for Light Rail Transit (LRT) Kelana Jaya, Sri Petaling and Ampang routes will only be available from 6am of the following day (July 18),” he said in a media statement.
Spanning 51km, the SBK line has 31 stations, with seven of them located underground. It also integrates with the LRT route at Pasar Seni and Maluri stations, as well as at the Merdeka station which integrates with Plaza Rakyat LRT.
The line also offers connectivity with LRT, monorail, KTM and Express Rail Link at the Muzium Negara station, which is connected to KL Sentral station.
Zohari said in line with the opening, feeder bus services for the newly opened stations will also be made available.
“It will expand the feeder bus coverage provided by Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd to 23 additional routes across 12 new MRT stations.
“A total of 100 additional feeder buses will be provided for the purpose to connect residents in residential and commercial areas nearby to selected MRT stations,” said Zohari.
Phase one, stretching 21km with 12 stations from Sg Buloh to Semantan began its operation on Dec 16, with an average of 15,000 passengers per day.
The daily number of passengers is expected to increase to 150,000 following the integration and connection with existing urban rail networks.
