Security management is core of civil service integrity

PUTRAJAYA: The security management culture at all government agencies is the core of integrity in the nation’s civil service.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said security management must also be given importance to avoid official or government secret from being leaked.

"Besides making sure that civil servants abide to security processes and procedures, security management is important in making sure safety and effectiveness in service delivery and communication is deterred such as cyber threats like spamware and malware," Ali said at the excellence in security awards ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office here today.

Ali said all government department head were hoped to continue activities and programmes to increase awareness on security.

"Ministries and government agencies must always be prepared to face and manage security risk in the current era of dynamic changes and challenges," he added.

A total of 185 government agencies including ministries, government departments and federal statutory bodies, state-government departments were evaluated by the Awards Inspectorate.

Only 45 agencies including six ministries; Health Ministry, Home Ministry,Federal Territories Ministry, Prime Minister's Department, Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and Rural and Regional Development Ministry were awarded with "five stars".

They received a trophy and a certificate of excellence.

The Security Protection Special Award was first introduced in 2013 by the Chief Government Security Office of the Prime Minister’s Department.
