KTMB to integrate stations with MRT, LRT: Liow

PUTRAJAYA: Rail commuters in the Klang Valley will enjoy seamless travel on the country's public transportation network with the integration of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd's (KTMB) rail lines by August.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he has directed KTMB and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to work together to integrate 20 of their stations with the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems by next month.

"We will start with 20 stations and will add more stations by year end and the following year.

"We are working very hard to improve the country's public transportation services," he said at his ministry's Hari Raya open house today.

Liow also said that the government is now studying the feasibility of introducing a rail transportation system for Putrajaya.

"There is no decision yet, as we are still in the planning stage,” he said.

Liow added that there have been talks to introduce a monorail or tram system to ease traffic flow in the administrative capital.
