Triple drowning at Sungai Lipis sand mining area

KUALA LIPIS: A father and his 17-year-old son drowned while their 15-year-old relative was believed to have suffered the same fate at a sand-mining area in Sungai Lipis late afternoon.

Public Works Department driver S. Ravandran, 46, S. Pravendran, 17, and G.K. Eswar, 15, were believed to have gone to the river for a swim when tragedy struck about 4pm.

Kuala Lipis Fire and Rescue Department was called up for help but was too late to rescue the victims.

The 11-men team, using a rescue boat and grappling iron, recovered Ravandran's body at 4.25pm and Pravendran's at 5.06pm.

As of 6pm, the search continues for Eswar.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department's Zone 3 chief Shahrulnizam Nasir said that both boys were students at a school in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.
