Strive to prevent Pakatan-predicted "Malay tsunami" in GE14, Umno told

TEMERLOH: Umno has been reminded not to take lightly the predicted “Malay tsunami” for Pakatan Harapan in the 14th general election (GE14).

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said party members should not feel too comfortable with past successes or remain complacent.

He said they should instead continue to work hard to get close to the people and conduct people-oriented activities on the ground.

Tajuddin stressed that the party's election machinery at all levels, including branches and divisions, should continue to work hard to provide explanations to the Malay community that only Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) is the party that will continue to safeguard Malay rights.

"Umno members should not take (a GE14 victory as a given) by saying there is no problem and that the party can easily emerge victorious. They have to provide explanations to those who do not have a clear understanding about the country's politics.

"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had previously mentioned that the Malays and Bumiputeras have to choose whether they want to be ruled by an Umno-led government or a DAP-led alternative government, which will pose a threat (to them)," he said.

Tajuddin was speaking to reporters after opening the Kuala Krau Umno division Youth wing meeting near here today.

Pakatan Harapan deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been reported as saying that a “Malay tsunami” (for the opposition) in the next polls is unstoppable, because Malays have lost faith in Umno.
