Serian man dies of rabies; 5th victim of outbreak

KUCHING: The death toll from rabies outbreak in the Serian district has increased to five people after a 52-year-old man succumbed to the virus at the Sarawak General Hospital yesterday.

The victim identified as Tinding Limbang of Kampung Remun, Serian was pronounced dead at 10.43pm.

Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement this morning, said the victim had succumbed to rabies with underlying pulmonary tuberculosis.

Tinding was admitted to the hospital for weak limbs, numbness and backache on July 11. Similar to other victims. The victim also had a history of being bitten by a dog.

Hisham also confirmed there are no new cases of people contracting the virus.
