Defence Minister stages grand Hari Raya celebrations, opens Kem Kementah to 10,000

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry’s Kem Kementah was filled to the brim with a sea of people; all decked out in their Raya best to join in the Hari Raya celebrations with nation’s army personnel.

The highlight of the event was of course, the presence of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

They were also joined by the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Defence Minister and Special Functions Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

More than 10,000 people attended the open house at Jalan Padang Tembok.

The carnival-like atmosphere tonight also was extra special for the Prime Minister with a surprise birthday celebration. Najib celebrated his 64th birthday on Sunday.

Guests at the open house were treated to scrumptious fares with a background of classic Hari Raya songs. Some local delicacies served included lemang, satay, roast lamb, Penang laksa and apam balik.

Also present at the celebration was Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum, Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, Army chief General Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim, Royal Malaysian Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin and Royal Malaysian Air Force chief General Datuk Seri Affendi Buang.
