Diver Jun Hoong to get RM25,000 from Perak, says MB

IPOH: Perak state government has promised to reward national diver Cheong Jun Hoong RM25,000 for her impressive gold medal win at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary recently.

"The incentive is in recognition of the hard work that she put in to attain success, not only in the Olympic Games, World Aquatics Championship but also for bringing honours to the state and country."

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir announced this today after chairing the state executive council meeting at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here today.

"As a token of appreciation, she truly deserves this incentive. The state government has come out with winning criteria and the kind of incentives that will be given to the Perak-born athletes should they win any international-level competitions.

"Based on her victory in Budapest, the state government has decided that she deserves to be awarded with cash worth RM25,000," Zambry said.

He added that during the Rio Olympics, the state government had given her incentives in the form of an apartment unit in Bandar Meru here worth RM320,000 as well as RM15,000 in cash in appreciation of her winning a silver medal.

Jun Hoong, who scored 397.50 points in the women’s 10-metre platform event category in the championships in Budapest, stunned Olympic champion Si Yajie from China who bagged silver with a score difference of 1.50.
