1,016 dog bite cases identified in Sarawak in last 4 months

KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department identified 56 new dog bite cases yesterday, bringing the total number of dog bite cases from April 1 until July 27 in the state to 1,016.

The new cases were detected in Serian (14), Kuching (38), and two cases each in Sri Aman and Samarahan.

The figures were compiled as part of the Health Department’s Active Case Detection (ACD) measures, under the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee’s (JBNS) campaign to curb the rabies outbreak in Sarawak.

In a statement, the JBNS secretariat said that 41 of the new dog bite cases were given anti-rabies vaccinations yesterday.

Since the Health Ministry announced the rabies outbreak in the Serian district early this month, four children and one adult have died from the disease. -- BERNAMA
