Lahad Datu man beaten to death over stolen chicken

LAHAD DATU: A man here was beaten to death because he was suspected of having stolen a chicken.

The 37-year-old was struck repeatedly with blunt objects by a man believed to be the allegedly-stolen bird’s owner at Kampung Bugis at 12.30am yesterday.

The victim was sent to the district hospital by members of the public, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

"According to a witness who was driving by the scene of the incident at the time, two men were by the roadside, one in a kneeling position.

"Just as he had gone about 100 metres, the witness (heard a call for help). He turned back only to find the man who was kneeling unconscious, while the other man was nowhere to be seen,” Lahad Datu ACP Hamzah Ahmad said.

The chicken in question is believed to have been stolen two days ago, said Hamzah, adding that police are looking for the suspect, also aged 37. -- BERNAMA
