Shah Alam hosts arts and cultural programme in conjunction with Merdeka celebrations

SHAH ALAM: The Shah Alam City Council today organised an arts and cultural programme called “Warna” in conjunction with Merdeka celebrations this month at Laman Seni, Seksyen 7, here.

The programme which aims to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among the young, as well as to foster a love for arts and culture also provides the opportunity for creative groups to transform Shah Alam into an art city.

Some 40 children, aged between 9 and 12 years of age, from two schools, the Rumah Aman Section 2 and Pusat Jagaan Cahaya Kasih Bestari participated in the one day programme.

They were taught colouring and drawing techniques and were treated to a performance of patriotic songs by local talents.

“We chose the theme of patriotism in conjunction with our 60th Independence Day celebration this year to instil patriotism and offer children a platform to sense and express themselves through art,” the council said in a statement here today.

The event, it said, featured performances from Kumpulan Kesenian Shah Alam as well as young talents such as Otam, Nazim Irfan, Fiqa Jalil, Keusuke Kikuchi, Carma Irama and Bani Basyishar.

Laman Seni is a space catered to activities involving arts, culture and architecture.

Those interested to use the space can contact the council’s community development personnel Mohd Zulfahmee Ismail at 013-350 7888.
