SHAH ALAM: Shah Alam police will be deploying 806 policemen and officers to ensure the safety of athletes and visitors alike during the 29th Sea Games.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said his men will be stationed at various locations around the city, particularly the Shah Alam Stadium.
On a whole, a total of 3,000 policemen and officers will be deployed to 12 event locations and 12 athletes’ accommodations around Selangor.
“We have started carrying out routine checks around the Shah Alam Stadium since yesterday. The first football match will be held on August 21, which will be between Malaysia and Brunei,” he told reporters when met at the Programme Mesra Rakyat with BHPetrol and Shah Alam police at the BHPetrol station, Section 28 here today.
Shafien further stated that in order to ensure the event runs smoothly, the number of personnel on duty will be increased should Malaysia proceed to the next stage as the number of visitors and supporters are expected to increase.
During the event, some 300 motorcyclists around Section 28 were treated to free services by BHPetrol, including 100 motorcycles belonging to the Royal Malaysian Police.
BHPetrol general manager Azizul Azily Ahmad said the free service started at 10am and ended at 3pm.
“This was among the programmes carried out as part of our corporate social responsibility, as well as a way to enhance our relationship with the local authorities.
“This is the first programme being held in Shah Alam with the cooperation from Shah Alam police station and the locals,” he added.
