Cat-astrophe averted: Nilai firemen rescue kitten trapped in drain for 2 days

NILAI: Swift action by fireman from the Nilai Fire and Rescue Department has saved a calico kitten, believed to have been trapped for two days in a five-metre deep drain.

Ten firemen and a fire engine were deployed to the scene after an emergency call was received at 10.58am today.

“A sewing teacher was on her way to her office, located at Nilai Square, when she heard the kitten’s cries at 8am. She tried to locate the source of the sound and noticed a kitten stuck in the drain.

“She tried to rescue the kitten herself, but wasn’t able to do so as the drain grate had been cemented. An emergency call was then made to the department,” said the Department’s senior officer Mohd Syazwan Saidy.

He said the kitten sustained injuries on several parts of its body and was given water, early treatment and was cleaned as soon as it was brought out of the drain.

“Judging by the condition of the kitten, we believe it has been stuck in the drain for two days,” he said.

Mohd Syazwan said the firemen took about 10 minutes to rescue the feline.
