Datuk Dr Noor Hisham elected to International Society of Surgery

SHAH ALAM: Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has been elected to the executive committee of the prestigious International Society of Surgery (ISS), as the councillor at large for a five year period.

Dr Noor Hisham said the period of appointment will be for two terms of two years each (2017 to 2019 and 2019 to 2021).

“I am currently attending the Executive Committee Meeting of the ISS or Societe Internationale de Chirurgie (SIC) at the Basel Conference Center in Basel, Switzerland.

“This (the appointment) is indeed an honour for me and the country to serve the global society. It is a global recognition and pride of the nation,” he told the New Straits Times today.

His letter of appointment from the ISS, dated June 13 read: “The Executive Committee was of the view that you have made substantial contributions to the society, and that your input to the executive committee would be of great value to the society, and recognised that your advice would be much valued.”

Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia is also bidding to host the next World Congress of Surgery (WCS) event, which will be announced on Thursday (August 17) during the annual general meeting in Basel.

“We are hoping to host the next event in Kuala Lumpur, which will be held in 2021.”

The ISS representing six collective member societies and surgeons from more than 100 countries, has a goal to work for international teaching in surgery, both specialised and general surgery, in developed and developing countries.
