Works to upgrade Merbau Chondong water supply scheme to be completed in Nov

MACHANG: Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) is confident of providing clean water to some 200,000 users in the state following the upgrade of the Merbau Chondong water supply scheme.

AKSB general manager Wan Mohd Zamri Wan Ismail said users from six districts in Kelantan - Tanah Merah, Machang, northern Kuala Krai, Pasir Putih, Bachok and southern Kota Baru - will benefit from the scheme.

"The Merbau Chondong water supply scheme project was carried out under the Eighth Malaysia Plan (RMK8) and its first phase has been completed in 2005.

"Through this project, the extraction of raw water resources for the Merbau Chondong water treatment plant which previously utilised river water, was completely converted into riverbank filtration system concept which has benefitted almost 200,000 users.

"The whole project is expected to be completed in November this year," he told reporters after visiting the site here today.

He said AKSB would continue to upgrade the water supply in Kelantan to fulfill local needs.

"The scheme has been recognised by the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry when AKSB received the Kettha Industrial Award in 2013.

"The use of this non-chemical treatment system contributes to the cost savings and operations of the waste management which will affects the quality of water," he said.

He said AKSB also hoped that this technology would save time and reduce the water-related problem which has burden many people in the state.
