KL City Hall mulling over making it compulsory to hoist Jalur Gemilang

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall is mulling the idea of making it compulsory for premise owners in the city to hoist Jalur Gemilang (national flag) at their respective properties as a condition for licence renewal.

Berita Harian reported that Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said the local council is currently reviewing the licence renewal terms for the purpose.

“This is to encourage business operators and property owners to raise our national flag, thus instilling the spirit in celebrating our 60th National Day on Aug 31,” he said after the launch of Kuala Lumpur City Hall Jalur Gemilang flag raising campaign on Monday.

He said despite the flags are given for free, many still did not take the matter seriously.

“We should be like the people in the United States or Indonesia, where they took the initiative to install flag at their respective premise. They are also very proud of it.

“We should do the same and manifest our love for the country,” he said.

During the event, a total of 1,500 Jalur Gemilang of various sizes were distributed to government and private agencies, non-governmental organisations, club and schools in the city.

Earlier this month, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor lamented the lackadaisical attitude and poor response among city folks in hoisting the national flag, ahead of the National Day.
