KUALA LUMPUR: A group of Malaysian tourists were reprimanded for waving the Jalur Gemilang at the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the six Malaysians, who were accompanied by an Indian tour guide, posed for a picture in front of the monument while holding the national flag.
This went against the prohibition of promotional, commercial, and canvassing activities on Taj Mahal premises.
"Later, a video went viral in which these women were seen holding their national flag on the pathway near the central tank," said Prince Vajpayee, senior conservation assistant of the Archaeological Survey of India, in the report.
"When questioned, they said they did not know about restrictions on canvassing or promotional activities at Taj Mahal. They submitted a written apology and were allowed to leave. The Indian accompanying them also expressed ignorance about the norms at Taj," said Vajpayee.
According to the report such incidents take place occasionally.
