PETRONAS ropes in country's badminton legends in its Merdeka celebration campaign

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas launched its National Day and Malaysia Day campaign today, to celebrate the country's progress, post-independence.

The campaign incorporates Petronas' 43-year journey in developing not only Malaysia’s oil and gas sector as well as its contributions towards the country’s progress, but also in helping improve the well-being of Malaysians.

The campaign will showcase a special exhibition entitled "Julang", at Galeri Petronas and a web film titled, "Piala Taman Thomas".

The exhibition was launched by the national oil corporation's chairman, Tan Sri Sidek Hassan at the Petronas Twin Towers.

The 60th anniversary of Malaysia's independence he said was a significant milestone in the nation's history.

This, he said was a good time for Malaysians to not only reflect on how far the country had progressed and the future that they must collectively continue to chart for themselves.

"For Petronas, as the custodian of the nation's hydrocarbon resources, the translation of this vision has been the cornerstone of all that we have done over the last 43 years, with remarkable outcome.

“This is what the exhibition - Julang, has so eloquently captured," he said at the launch held here.

The exhibition will take visitors on a visual tour of Petronas' journey from its early days as oil and gas regulators, its expansion into upstream and downstream businesses locally and abroad as well as its contribution towards nation-building.

The exhibition at Galeri Petronas, Suria KLCC, began Tuesday and ends Sept 17.

The webfilm can also be previewed at the same venue.

The four minute film which features badminton legends, Rashid Sidek and Foo Kok Keong, promotes the essence and values of teamwork and perseverance for a better Malaysia. It is directed by Ismail Kamarul.

Its production includes three days of filming around the Klang Valley together.

Rashid said through the webfilm, he hoped the younger generation would be encouraged to uphold the nation's name at the international stage and work hard to achieve success.

Foo, meanwhile said he wanted to see Malaysia’s young taking up the challenge and never giving up in the endevors no matter what,

The webfilm, he added should also inspire the the Malaysian contingent competing in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games to emerge as the overall champion.

The web film is up on Petronas' official brand channel - www.petronasofficial.com.

There is also a 60-second television commercial carrying the same theme, which will run until Sept 17.
