Netizens lavish praise on girl who wiped mess left by fellow-MRT passenger

KUALA LUMPUR: Another MRT passenger has attracted the attention of the public for their behaviour – but this time, for all the right reasons.

Commuter Mohd Faiz Muhamad Daud shared the story of a civic-minded MRT passenger in a Facebook post recently – and his story has gone viral.

In his post, Faiz related an incident in which a passenger spilled his carbonated drink on the floor of an MRT coach. Fortunately, he was conscientious enough to wipe the spilled water off before disembarking from the train.

“The passenger immediately wiped and cleaned up the (floor) before (getting off) at his destination.

“But what was unexpected is that a young girl later (used) tissue paper to (give the floor a more thorough cleaning).

“I did not expect her to do that and asked her why she cleaned it again when the earlier passenger had already (done so). She said that (since it was a soda drink), it would still leave a sticky stain if not wiped properly.

“Respect this girl,” Faiz posted, with a picture of the girl wiping the floor.

He said that he could only conduct a brief conversation with the girl, who is a student, and found out that her name is Angeline.

“This girl should be given the highest appreciation, as not many would do what she did,” he said in his Facebook post yesterday.

The account has received a strong, positive reaction from netizens with over 15,000 likes and 1,960 shares as of 2pm.

Some have even tagged Rapid KL’s Facebook page in the comment box to acknowledge Angeline’s kind deed. Many have voiced their appreciation to the girl and are exhorting the public to follow her example.

Rapid KL’s Facebook page found recent fame when the company launched an innovative campaign to educate the public on etiquette when using public transportation.

The series of awareness posts, which began on July 26, was prompted by irresponsible users who vandalised facilities of the newly-launched MRT service.
