MRT glitch delays trains; thousands arrive late for work

KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of commuters on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line arrived late for work this morning after a technical glitch caused considerable delays to train operations.

Disgruntled passengers hurrying to their office were overheard grumbling over the late trains.

M Surach, who regularly takes the MRT to his office in Bangsar, said that for some reason, his train stopped for between five and 10 minutes at each station, beginning at around 6.30am.

"I usually take the train from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn MRT Station to the Pasar Seni (interchange) Station – a journey will usually takes about half an hour.

"However, due to the long delays today, the train took about one hour and a half to reach the Pasar Seni Station," he said.

Some passengers have taken to social media to vent their frustrations and are demanding an explanation from the Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) and RapidKL.

Sheh Hezmee, who posted a comment on MRT Corp’s Facebook page said: "Why were the trains delayed today? Please enlighten us," he said.

When contacted, a RapidKL spokesman said that the MRT line is experiencing a signalling issue at the Pusat Bandar Damansara Station (northbound and southbound).

"Due to the problem, the trains moved more slowly along the entire line," he added.
