Selangor MB's aide at MACC headquarters over Unisel probe

PUTRAJAYA: The Selangor Menteri Besar’s strategic communications director Yin Shao Loong arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) headquarters this morning to assist the investigation into University Selangor (Unisel).

He came alone at 9.25am, ahead of his 10am appointment with the graft buster.

The MACC investigation team is headed by its investigation director Datuk Simi Abd Ghani.

Confirming the ongoing probe, Simi said the procedures could take the whole day.

"It depends on how much we can gather from him (Yin). It could take the whole day," Simi said.

He did not deny the possibility that Yin could be detained if there was sufficient evidence against him.

"But it's too early for us to tell. We are only questioning him at 10am."

A summons to appear at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya was sent to Yin's office yesterday afternoon.

It was believed that it was about MACC’s investigation into Unisel, Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd.

On August 22, MACC raided the three entities - a move the Selangor government described as an attempt to smear its image.

It was reported that Jana Niaga allegedly received monetary compensation and a new contract from Unisel despite failing to complete a previous contract.

Unisel and MBI said in a statement that the deal was the result of a High Court and Court of Appeal order to settle the dispute between the university and Jana Niaga via arbitration.

“Both parties had refined and scrutinised several issues to arrive at an amicable solution,” MBI chief executive officer Raja Shahreen Raja Othman and Unisel vice-chancellor and president Prof Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman said in a press statement.
