World #QuranHour and Merdeka #QuranHour organisers gear up for event tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Merdeka #QuranHour, part of the World #QuranHour tomorrow, will see the presence of flag bearers of a different kind.

Bearing flags with the 'Surah Yasin', these individuals will lead the recitation of the Yasin during the events tomorrow.

These individuals however do not comprise qari (reciters) or even imam, but hail from different backgrounds, all aiming towards uplifting the teachings of the Quran.

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation chief executive officer Marhaini Yusoff said these yasin flag bearers will include ustaz, celebrities, soldiers, refugees, ex-prisoners and politicians.

“We want to show that despite the differences between them, they can all be united to bring forth the spirit of a kind, caring nation to the world," she said.

Marhaini said the organisers, in their final publicity leg, today organised the Street Dakwah and Street Campaign.

“Volunteers from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Rumah Ngaji distributed programme’s pamphlets to homeless and urban poor to encourage them to attend (the event).

“We also went to Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Masjid Kampung Baru, Jalan Raja, Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Dang Wangi police station.

“During the visit, we explained the benefits of the Quran, the significance of the day of Arafah and its relation with our programmes,” she said.

Meanwhile, the event's committee are all geared up for tomorrow.

Marhaini said preparations are being made at locations such as Masjid Jamek, Dataran Merdeka and IIUM.

The World #QuranHour will start at 11.30am at Masjid Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah IIUM and at selected mosques nationwide.

At night, Merdeka #QuranHour will be held at 8.30pm at Dataran Merdeka.

It is being held in conjunction with the wuquf in Arafah, Mecca, on the ninth day of the month of Zulhijjah of the Islamic calendar, which coincides with National Day on Aug 31.

For one hour, Quran recitations will be held to encourage reading, understanding and discussions of the holy scripture.

Media Prima Group is one of World #QuranHour’s media partners.
