PUTRAJAYA: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa tonight urged Malaysians to reflect upon the contributions and sacrifices of the country's leaders and its people.
He said Malaysians must safeguard unity and instill a spirit of togetherness to become a society that respects each other and values peace.
"I hope that all of us will uphold the peace through strength of character and a sense of love as we strive to make the country safer and more prosperous," he said in a statement issued in conjunction with Malaysia's 60th Merdeka Day celebration.
Ali congratulated all who were involved in the recent Sea Games that saw remarkable and amazing achievements
"We must persevere and be productive for the sake of the country's development. Develop a spirit of self-reliance in working without depending on assistance at all times.
"We must also be aware of our own responsibilities in order to ensure the continuity of a life that is safe and secure," he said.
