Google celebrates Merdeka Day with special doodle

KUALA LUMPUR: Google today celebrated Malaysia’s 60th year of independence with a special doodle featuring the Jalur Gemilang flag on its search engine.

The doodle bears an animated version of the flag, which is positioned between the word ‘Google’. The number 60 can also be seen beneath the flag.

The doodle was designed using the colours red, blue and yellow, which represent the Jalur Gemilang.

The doodle made its appearance on Google’s home page in the wee hours of the morning. This is the ninth time Google has created a special doodle in conjunction with Merdeka Day

.

According to Google, the Malaysian flag was chosen was because on Aug 31, 1957, thousands of Malayans gathered and chanted, “Merdeka, Merdeka, Merdeka” as the national flag was raised.

The first Merdeka doodle was created in 2007, which featured a ‘wau’ (kite). Last year, the National Day doodle featured a Jalur Gemilang flag with a ‘the tarik’ being pulled.
