T'ganu MB cheers on kindergarteners at Kemas Potential Day

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman has urged parents, guardians and educators of children to nurture the young with good values so that they grow up to become useful citizens.

He said that the role played by kindergarten (kemas) teachers is especially crucial.

“Catching them young is very important – (it’s the best time to) inculcate good moral values.

“Likewise, when they compete in games and recreational activities, they will do so in the spirit of sportsmanship, solidarity and camaraderie,” Ahmad Razif said at the close of the ‘Terengganu Kemas Potential Day’ at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium here.

Besut beat Kuala Terengganu 2-0 in the futsal final at the stadium.

Also present was Terengganu Social Welfare Department (Kemas) director Dr Faridah Mat.

Razif said that the ‘Terengganu Kemas Potential Day’, a sports carnival involving kindergarteners from the state’s eight districts, is a good avenue to unearth talent from among pre-school children.

Razif said that Terengganu came in third overall in the national-level Kemas Games last year.

At the ‘Terengganu Kemas Potential Day’, Marang emerged tops. They were also the netball and rounders champions.

Other standouts were Hulu Terengganu’s creative movement winners; Setiu’s Formula One motorsports champions; and Kemaman’s spring hurdlers shuttle relay champions.

Meanwhile, kindergarten teachers Zalila Radzali of Dungun and Noor Khuzaimi Mohd Zarawi of Setiu were adjudged the best innovative society developers.

Hamiza Najwa Nur Ain Mohd Hisyam Saharudin of Kuala Nerus won the excellent child award.

A total of 670 children were involved in the games, which closed with Kamil Izwan Azhar riding a mini sports bike to hand over a token of appreciation to Razif.
