PUTRAJAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has arrived at the Palace of Justice here to attend the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) foreign exchange (forex) losses in the 1990s.
Clad in a grey suit, the former prime minister walked into the courtroom as jailed opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was presenting his statement to the panel.
He entered just 10 minutes after Anwar took the stand.
Earlier, Anwar’s wife and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was also seen walking into the courtroom.
Anwar is the 18th witness to testify before the RCI. It was reported that Anwar would not provide any written statement when giving his testimony before the panel, claiming that he did not have enough time to prepare it.
Those who testified earlier today were former BNM governor Tan Sri Ahmad Mohd Don, former auditor general Tan Sri Dr Hadenan Abdul Jalil and BNM’s current forex department manager Azman Mat Ali.
Anwar, who is currently serving a five-year jail sentence at Sungai Buloh prison, was the finance minister from 1991 to 1998 during Dr Mahathir’s premiership.
