Egypt navy rescues nine M'sian tourists from sinking boat in Red Sea

CAIRO: Egyptian naval forces saved nine Malaysian and eight local tourists from their broken-down motorboat which was in danger of capsizing off the northern Red Sea coast amidst bad weather, an Egyptian military spokesman said in a statement, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

The forces responded to a distress call from the sinking tourist boat, which was 35 nautical miles southeast of Safaga island in the Red Sea, and saved the 17 Egyptians and Malaysians, Military Spokesman Tamer al-Refaay said in the statement.

"A search is underway for an Egyptian who is still missing," said the spokesman.

Al-Refaay added that the rescued tourists were taken to the Red Sea naval base and provided with necessary medical aid. -- BERNAMA
