Three families in Kulim evacuated due to floods

KULIM: Eighteen people from three families in Kampung Tebuan here have been forced to seek shelter in the village's surau when their houses were flooded following a downpour yesterday evening.

Kulim Civil Defence Department officer Mohd Fadhil Fahmi Zaini said the victims were advised to vacate their homes after the village was hit by floods at 7pm.

He said about 19 houses in the village and Kampung Jalan Baru were hit by flash floods but as at 9.30pm, only the three families had to spend the night at the relief centre.

"We have been monitoring the situation since evening and subsequently advised them to vacate the house for the night as it was not safe for them," he said.

Mohd Fadhil said they were assisted by the Welfare Department and the Village Development and Security Committee.

The number of evacuees might increase if the rainfall lasts for several more hours," he said when contacted.
