Late Adenan Satem, Abang Jo to receive awards in conjunction with Taib's 81st birthday

KUCHING: The late Tan Sri Adenan Satem will be posthumously bestowed the state’s highest title at the investiture in conjunction with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 81st birthday celebration today (Saturday).

Adenan, who was chief minister from March 1 2014 until his death on Jan 11 this year, is among two recipients of the Satria Bintang Sarawak (SBS) award, which carries the title “Pehin Seri”.

Fondly known as “Tok Nan” among Sarawakians, Adenan had succumbed to heart complications. He was 72.

His wife, Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, is continuing her husband’s legacy as the new state representative for the Tanjong Datu constituency.

The other recipient of SBS is Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Ahmad Barieng, who was the third and sixth head of the state.

A total of 952 recipients will be conferred awards in conjunction with the Head of the State’s birthday celebration.

Among them is the current chief minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg, who is the sole recipient of the Datuk Patinggi Bintang Kenyalang award. The award carries the title “Datuk Patinggi”.

There are four recipients of the Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak award, which carries the title “Datuk Seri”.

The recipients are Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim; Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot, State Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and former State Attorney-General Datuk Fong Joo Chung.

Assistant State Youth and Sports Minister Snowdan Lawan, Sarawak Attorney-General Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suadi, former Balingian state assemblyman Abdul Ajis Abdul Majeed (CORRECT) and Universiti Malaya acting vice-chancellor Prof Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud are the recipients of Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang award, which carries title “Datuk”.

Four people will receive the “Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak” award, which carries the title “Datu” (CORRECT), are State Infrastructure Development and Transport Ministry permanent secretary Safri Zainudin, State Public Works Department director Zuraimi Sabki, State Human Resources Department director William Patrick Nyigor and Sarawak Native Courts chief registrar Micheal Dawi Alli.

A total of 11 recipients will be awarded with the “Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak” award. They are former Ninth Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier-General (Rtd) Datuk Muhammad Daniel @ Damien Abdullah, Sibuti Member of Parliament Ahmad Lai Bujang, former state health director Dr Yao Sik Chi, State Public Services Commission member Rabiah Johari, Development Bank of Sarawak board member Sharkawi Alis, Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry member Alex Ting Kuang Kuo @ Ting Kwang Kuo, Kuching division Malay Community leader Temenggong Helmi Mohd Gol, Bernard Aggan Assan, SEGi University and Colleges Board of Directors member Goh Leng Chua and Yepni @ Yet Adenan.

Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, State Health Department director Dr Jamilah Hashim and Alhadi Ibrahim of Konsortium Malaysia are among six recipients of the Johan Bintang Kenyalang (JBK) award. Other recipients of the award are Puan Sri Julia Suntong, Datin Seri Mariam Iboh and Datin Munirah Mohd Hassan, who are members of the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI).

State International Trade and E-Commerce Ministry permanent secretary Kameri Affandi and Bintulu Development Authority general manager are the two recipients of the Johan Perkhidmatan Cemerlang award.

There are a total of 15 recipients of the Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang award, Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (28 recipients), Pegawai Bintang Kenyalang (62 recipients), Pingat Perkhidmatan Bakti (Silver) (140 recipients), Ahli Bintang Sarawak (83 recipients), Ahli Bintang Kenyalang (174 recipients), Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji (Bronze) (164 recipients), and Bentara Bintang Sarawak (251 recipients).

The Head of the State will confer award to the first batch of recipients at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Complex in Petra Jaya near here on today.
