Cop, male friend killed in crash near Bukit Tunggal

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 32-year-old police officer and her friend were killed when the Proton Satria they were travelling in was involved in an accident near Bukit Tunggal, here, this morning.

Inspector Junaidah Zainal, attached with the Dungun police training centre, died while receiving treatment at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) at 4.20pm.

State Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Abd Razak Hassan said Junaidah was seated at the front passenger seat of the car driven by her friend, Mohd Lokman Ridzwan, 29.

He said Lokman, a self-employed from Jalan Tok Adis, Kuala Ibai, here, died from severe head injuries at the emergency unit of the HSNZ, at 9.32am.

Razak said in the 3.15am incident, both were heading towards Kuala Terengganu from Kampung Batu Enam.

"Lokman was believed to have lost control of the car before it skidded at Jalan Tengku Mizan in Kuala Terengganu," he said.

The case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
