Firemen rescue woman trapped in elevator

NILAI: It was the longest 20-minutes for a woman here, who was trapped alone inside an elevator before she was rescued by a team from Nilai Fire and Rescue Department here this morning.

In the 9.20am incident, the 25-year-old lab assistant was on her way to the ground floor, before the elevator abruptly stopped on the first floor of the Multipurpose Lab Faculty building in Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).

Nilai Fire and Rescue Department senior officer, Syazwan Saidy said, the department received the emergency call at 9.52am before five firemen were dispatched at the location three minutes later.

“When we arrived, we found the woman trapped inside the elevator and we immediately launched examination on the lift to eliminate any risks of danger before we could open the elevator. A special key was used to open the elevator and it took us about five minutes before the victim was safely brought out,” he said.

He added, the victim didn’t sustain any injuries in the incident.

A witness who works as a security guard said, he heard the voice of the victim crying out for help while he was patrolling the building, before he made the emergency call for help.
