RTD and police to join forces in protecting AES cameras from vandalism - Transport Minister

BATU PAHAT: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will cooperate with police to closely monitor the safety of Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said this followed the vandalism on a newly-installed AES camera near Pagoh, Johor earlier this month.

He said he regretted the act of sabotaging public property as it revealed that some people had failed to appreciate how such amenities could curb road accidents.

"The people should avoid vandalising public property. The laws and equipment to monitor motorists were introduced by the government for a reason, as they bring benefits to the people.

"It may be only one case of vandalism of the AES but we look at this case seriously," said Liow, who is MCA president, after opening the 40th Johor MCA convention at the Che An Khor Association Building in Yong Peng, near here today.

On Sept 10, an AES camera pole at Km151 on the northbound lane of the North-South Expressway near Pagoh, Johor was vandalised.

The photos, shared by netizens, show the AES pole lying on the ground, with its electrical wires exposed.
