All but one flood-affected Perlis school to open on Monday

KANGAR: One of several schools in the state which were inundated by floodwaters in the last few days will be closed tomorrow as a safety precaution.

The doors to SK Sri Indera here will remain closed, even though floodwaters in the area have receded, said Perlis Education director Izmi Ismail.

He said the floors of some of the school’s classrooms are slippery and pose a danger to pupils and teachers.

Izmi said the school is organising a clean-up for Monday, with the participation of parents and teachers.

Sessions for seven other schools which were used as flood relief centres – MRSM Beseri, SK Bintong, SK Panggau, SK Sri Perlis, SK Sena, SK Kubang Gajah and SK Kampung Serdang – will resume as usual.

"We have visited the schools (which served as flood relief centres. Evacuees) only occupied the schools’ halls, which were not (where classes are conducted),” Izmi added.
