Sisters hurt in snatch theft incident

GURUN: Two sisters were injured in a snatch theft incident near a shopping complex here last night.

The incident occurred at 8.20pm when the two women aged 26 and 24, were on their way home from a night market in Guar Chempedak.

Kuala Muda district police deputy chief Superintendent Saifi Abdul Hamid said the sisters were riding a motorcycle when a man, also on a motorcycle, grabbed a bag belonging to the older woman which was placed in the motorcycle basket.

“Her 24-year-old sister lost control of the machine causing them to fall by the roadside.” he said when contacted.

Saifi said the suspect who wore black helmet with dark visor fled the scene on a Yamaha 125Z motorcycle.

He said the 24-year-old woman sustained bruises on her right elbow and both knees while her sister sustained injuries near her eyes.

Saifi said the bag contained the woman’s mobile phone, two ATM cards, a driving licence and her MyKad.

He said police were investigating the case under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt while committing robbery which carries a maximum 20 years’ jail and liable to fine or whipping.
