Investigation paper on Keramat religious school fire submitted to DPP

KUALA TERENGGANU: The investigation paper on the seven boys who allegedly conspired to torch the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah religious school in Kuala Lumpur has been sent to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) this morning.

Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said police were waiting for the directive from the DPP.

Wan Ahmad said the remand order against the seven boys, aged between 12 and 18, which ended on Friday, had been extended for another week.

He said police required more time to question the suspects whose alleged involvement in the arson claimed the lives of 21 students and two teachers of the school.

Wan Ahmad was speaking after visiting the Terengganu Police Contingent headquarters here today. He was accompanied by his deputy Datuk Huzir Mohammed and Bukit Aman senior officers.

Earlier, he was given a briefing by the state police chief Datuk Aidi Ismail on the state’s crime rate.

Wan Ahmad said police were looking for 626 crime suspects since last year.

He said a joint-task force comprising Terengganu and Bukit Aman officers had been set up to further probe three high-profile murder cases in Besut, Kuala Terengganu and Marang.

“The murder of the late Alor Limbat assemblyman Alias Abdullah is one of the three cases,” he added.
