2 primary schools in Kedah, 1 in Perlis to resume classes tomorrow

ALOR STAR: The two primary schools in Kedah and one in Perlis which were closed today due to floods, will resume their session tomorrow.

Kedah Education Committee chairman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zin said the state Education Department has decided it was safe for the schools - SK Bukit Hijau and SK Seri Banai - to reopen tomorrow following improving flood situation.

He said a road leading to SK Bukit Hijau which was cut off earlier is now accessible for all vehicles.

"The flood at SK Seri Banai has also receded and clean up exercise was carried out at the school this morning," he said when contacted.

In KANGAR, the school session at SRK Seri Indera will also resume tomorrow.

State Education Department director Izmi Ismail said classrooms and school's compound which were affected by floods on Friday, have been cleaned up by the teachers, parents and staff from other government agencies today.

He said it is now safe for classes to be conducted, especially at classrooms located on the ground floor.

"The teachers assisted by parents, pupils and various government agencies have clean-up the school since this morning," he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Kedah Fire and Rescue Department will mobilise its manpower to assist flood clean-up effort at public areas, especially affected schools under its post-flood disaster management programme.

Its chief Abdul Razak Muda said the first clean-up exercise was carried out at SK Seri Banai here today.

He said the department is also on alert for reports on the presence of venomous reptiles especially snakes from residents.

“It is common for us to find slithering reptiles seeking shelter at school buildings and also homes after a flood disaster.

"We wish to remind the public to be careful and immediately contact us if they require any help.” he said.
