Names of potential BN candidates submitted to MACC for screening

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional is the only party to submit their 14th General Election candidates list for screening to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is BN chairman, said the party had already provided the graft busters with some names to check the background of its candidates.

“We can provide MACC with an updated list once we have confirmed it. Other parties have not submitted their list, BN is the only party to do so.

“We already have names (for the next election) but we have yet to finalise it,” he said after chairing the Umno Supreme Council meeting here, tonight.

On Tuesday, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said although it was not compulsory for any political party to submit the list, he welcomed such a move and urged other political parties to do the same.

Meanwhile, Najib, who is also Umno president said the party’s annual general assembly would be one that was “lively” and would receive positive response.

“Today, the Supreme Council received a report from the party’s management committee chaired by (Umno vice-president) Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the several programmes that would be held in conjunction with this year’s assembly.

“We will make the assembly, which will begin on Dec 5, a lively one that would receive a positive response,” he added.
