KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has congratulated Julian Yee Zhi-Jie who will fly the Malaysian flag in the figure skating event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.
"Congratulations to Julian Yee, the first Malaysian athlete to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics, who will be in action in figure skating!," Najib said in a Twitter post.
It was reported that Yee, 20, ranked 38th in the world, qualified after placing sixth at the 49th CS Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany.
"The milestone has been achieved and Malaysia will for sure be at the 2018 Winter Olympics! I've finally made it!" a jubilant Yee wrote on his Instagram account.
The 2017 Sea Games gold medallist also thanked everyone who had supported him. -- BERNAMA
