Redang Mutiara Resort is first on Pulau Redang to receive halal certification

KUALA TERENGGANU: Redang Mutiara Resort has become the first resort on Pulau Redang to be awarded a halal certificate.

The certificate was handed to resort owner Khairul Azizie Mohamad – who is also owner of the island’s Delima Resort – by state Multimedia Communications and Special Duties committee chairman Ghazali Taib.

Ghazali said more hotels and resorts on Pulau Redang, as well as those on the mainland, should apply for halal certification as it would be help them attract more tourists from Muslim nations.

“So far, 26 premises, including hotels and restaurants throughout the state, have obtained the halal certificate, compared with 17 premises last year.

“We hope more will come forward,” he said after the ceremony on Saturday.

Also present at the event were Batu Rakit assemblyman Bazlan Abdul Rahman; State Religious Affairs Department Commissioner Datuk Wan Mohd Ibrahim; and the Department's senior officer.

Ghazali said the halal certification could also attract government departments, non-governmental organisations and other Muslim-based organisations to host events at halal premises.

Meanwhile, Khairul Azizie said with the halal recognition, his resort is now prepared to receive more booking from tourists from Muslim nations.

"It gives Muslim clients the confidence to consume food and beverages prepared by the resort,” he added.
