Kuantan boy found unconscious after allegedly beaten, chained up by father

KUANTAN: Furious with his 10-year-old son for refusing to attend school, a military man allegedly beat the boy before chaining him to a gas cylinder in the kitchen of their house at Indera Mahkota here on Thursday.

The 35-year-old's actions were discovered by police who, upon receiving a tip about child abuse, went to the house at 10am and through the outer gate of the house saw the boy lying unconscious on the floor.

Since there was no one else at home and the victim was not responding to repeated shouts by the policemen, the team broke down the door to enter the premises.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said the boy, who was only clad in shorts, had bruises on his neck and was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in an ambulance.

Checks revealed that the boy, who has been warded, is now out of danger.

"Investigations showed that the victim did not attend school for a day and the father allegedly decided to discipline his son.

“We have picked up his father and mother to assist in investigations," Abdul Aziz said, adding that the couple has been remanded for week.

It is learnt that the boy's father – a member of the military – is attached to the 10th mile army camp here.
