Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge closed to traffic for 10 hours on Oct 14 for cycling event

GEORGE TOWN: The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge will be closed to traffic from midnight to 10am on Oct 14 for the “Music Fun Ride” in conjunction with National Sports Day 2017.

The family-themed fun ride will be held for the first time by Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) and Mediamore Marketing.

High energy songs will accompany the cyclists throughout their ride.

JKSB corporate communications deputy senior manager Azizi Azizan said the total ride would be 45km long.

“Since this is not a competition, it will not be compulsory for participants to complete their rides. The organisers have prepared three locations on the bridge to enable the participants to turn back to Batu Kawan. The three openings are Km4.7, Km12.8 and Km18.5,” he said in a statement today.

With the temporary closure, JKSB hopes bridge users will plan their trip in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

More than 2,400 participants have signed up for the fun ride. Among them are a disabled cyclist from New Zealand and 22 cyclists from the special integration education programme from four secondary schools in the Seberang Prai Selatan district.
